Stevie Wonder Operation and The Woman in Red
I switched on the TV ( here in the UK) on Sunday Morning (7th September 2019) and was greeted with the news about Stevie Wonder is undergoing a kidney transplant.
The 69-year-old singer told the crowd at an event in London’s Hyde Park on 6th July 2019, that he would give three more concerts this summer before the operation in September 2019.
Mr.Wonder announced after playing his 1972 hit Superstition, saying that he wanted to prevent rumors about his health from spreading. “I have a donor and it’s all good,” he said.
Wonder did not offer any more information on his condition. Kidney failure and end-stage chronic kidney disease are among the most common reasons for needing a kidney replacement.
Stevie has a huge following in the UK. So it seemed appropriate to release the news there.
With this in mind, I decided to go into the loft area of my house and look for a Stevie Wonder album, to put down and play.
I came across this album - The Woman In Red (film soundtrack album) and smiled. I love this album.
To this day I feel that this album is one the best albums that Stevie Wonder has done in his career, and yet it gets overlooked. Time and TIME again.
I could not rush downstairs fast enough to put this on my record player.
The album is fuelled by the monster hit called ‘I Just Called To Say I Love You,’; the soundtrack album gave Stevie another US R&B No. 1, and reached number 2 in the UK; it finally ended Prince’s supremacy on the charts with ‘Purple Rain.’
In 1984, Prince seemed unstoppable. The superstar had an incredible five-month run over the soul album chart that had started in July and runs up to December 1984. Who could stop him?
On 8 December 1984, Stevie Wonder rose to this occasion.
The album ended the 19-week run at No. 1 for ‘Purple Rain’. The Stevie Wonder album was the soundtrack album for the film (OF THE SAME NAME) ‘The Woman In Red.’
Firstly the album ‘The Woman In Red.’ debuted in the music charts in late September 1984. The Motown soundtrack climbed to No. 1, fuelled by its lead single ‘I Just Called To Say I Love You.’
That multi-million-seller topped almost every chart that it centered around the world, from Australia to the USA and from Norway to New Zealand.
The Woman In Red featured new vocal and instrumental performances by Stevie including another top-five soul single, ‘Love Light In Flight,’ and three appearances by Dionne Warwick, on ‘It’s You,’ ‘Moments Aren’t Moments’ and ‘Weakness.’
My favorite from the album I have to say is - ‘Moments Aren’t Moments’ featuring Dionne Warwick.
Just a wonderfully crafted single, aided by the wonderful vocals of Dionne Warwick. I must have played single at least 3 x times, and on the bounce as well.

Album: The Woman In Red (1984)
Song: Moments Aren't Moments
Moments Aren't Moments lyrics
Tender, warm and serene
Are the words that might come close to having
Remnants of the feelings that we can no longer hide
Mighty, shining and clear
Are but mere expressions that don't come near
To the ever glowing eminence of light in our eyes tonight
'Cause moments aren't moments
Until they are moments like this magic moment of ours
And magic's not magic
Until it is magic like magical love in our hearts
Feeling with tender love-bloom
Gentle, quiet, so soft
Are the wings of love that can send us off
To an ever splendor unknown to all in our time
Trusting in the unknown and giving in to what feelings have shown
Will take us to altered intimacies in our lives
Where we'll find
That moments aren't moments
Until they are moments like this magic moment of ours
And magic's not magic
Until it is magic like magical love in our hearts
Feeling with tender love-bloom
'Cause moments aren't moments
Until they are moments like this magic moment of ours
And magic's not magic
Until it is magic like magical love in our hearts
Feeling with tender love-bloom
[Repeat twice]
The album (The Woman In Red) reached No. 4 on the US pop chart, went No. 1 R&B, and sold a million in the US. Stevie also received a new trophy for the mantelpiece, ‘I Just Called’ which won an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
The soundtrack added more credence to his history on the R&B album The 12-Year-Old Genius (Stevie Wonder at the time) and its single ‘Fingertips Part 1 & 2’ had both topped the US pop album and singles charts respectively.
Wonder’s first soul chart album entry was with Up-Tight Everything’s Alright, as it was spelled, which went to No. 2 in 1966.
He achieved this again when released the album called Talking Book which did the trick in early 1973, but then there was no stopping him. The Woman In Red made it seven R&B No. 1 albums for Stevie in less than 12 years.
I love this album. And I myself have overlooked it over the years. Wonderful grooves and melodies throughout. And made it even better by the super voices of Dionne Warwick, They should seriously think of working together for one more time in the future.
The Woman in Red Movie - 1984
The film on which the music album was written was directed by and starred Gene Wilder. Wilder also wrote the script, adapting it from the Yves Robert film Pardon Mon Affaire.
It co-stars Charles Grodin, Gilda Radner, Joseph Bologna, Judith Ivey, and Kelly LeBrock.
The plot of the movie is this...
Teddy (Gene Wilder) is a middle-aged man who has a good wife, kids, friends, and a fine job. You could say that he has everything he wants, but he doesn't.
One day he sees a gorgeous woman in a red dress, and goes crazy! He must have her...
Ahhhhh, the 1980s, good music, and great movies being released at a really good rate. As I have already told you about the music soundtrack above. I also truly love this movie as well. Makes you smile all the way through the Movie..
We all hope for a speedy reply to a true music legend. We don't have any of them left these days. So we need to appreciate what we have in Stevie Wonder.
